The Government of Andhra Pradesh is likely to conduct State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) by July 2011. The Official Experts Team appointed by the Government of AP for the study of SLET in other states has been studying the pattern and scheme of SLET examinations being conducted by Pune and Mysore Universities in Maharashtra and Karnataka respectively. The last SLET in AP was conducted in 2004. The College Service Commission (CSC) of AP, which conducts SLET also has been dissolved.

SLET is an essential qualification for the appointment of Lecturers / Assistant Professors in Universities and Degree Colleges. Though UGC – NET is there at all India level, the pass percentage from AP in NET has been very less. Hence the demand for revival of SLET has been strong from the student community in Andhra Pradesh. Most of the state Governments are conducting SLETs equivalent to UGC- NET. The AP Government is also considering giving the responsibilities of conducting SLET to Osmania University. The APPSC has been reluctant to conduct SLET on the grounds of over burden on it along with recruitment notifications.
